"The best family"
On arrival at Malta Airport, I was met and given a warm welcome by Gilbert. It was such a relief to have this service and not have to find my own way, particularly after such a long trip.
As we drove to where I had booked my accommodation for the next nine weeks he was very helpful answering the many questions I had.
Tonya, Gilbert's wife, greeted me in a very friendly manner as well and I felt at ease with them both right from the beginning.
I was shown around and assisted with my bags up to my room. I had rented the room at the top which had an en suite and three terraces. There was a kitchenette just outside my room with a good sized fridge which came in handy as I liked to have it stocked well for the times I preferred to stay in and eat. I was given fresh towels regularly and a real bonus was to have my washing done weekly and room cleaned as well.
Tonya, Gilbert and their daughter are such lovely people. They were very helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble. I really enjoyed their company.
When I was unwell , Tonya came up to check on me regularly to see if I was Okay and if there was anything I needed.
Sliema Home stay is as you see by the photos, characteristically a much loved old Maltese home. For me this accommodation offered value for money. It is situated in a good position as is just a short walk to the Sliema Waterfront, Balluta and St Julian’s. There is a small grocery store, fruit and vegetable shop and butcher on the corner. In the other direction is the Police Station, Post Office, Pharmacy, ATM and a number of other small shops. The bus stops are conveniently located nearby, one being across the street and another just around the corner.
Tonya, Gilbert and Estelle, thanks for being so kind and hospitable. I had a wonderful experience staying with you.
Tonya I miss our conversations.
Hope to come back soon,

“Excellent cost-performance ratio.
A sweet accommodation with very nice hosts!”
JANUARY 4, 2015
It was my first visit to Malta in September 2014 (wonderful weather) and I was just very happy that I chose and booked a room in Gilbert's and Tonia place! And I will do it again, like so many guests do, after they are as satisfied as I was during my first time. As an experienced traveler I could recognise prior to my booking that the rooms are basic, but clean, big enough and I am sure for this room fee you cannot expect more comfort and more help and hospitality than you will receive from the hosts, who are very nice and friendly people and try to help you in any way they can. This is, why I completely disagree with the negative rating below. As a traveler you should know the background of Malta's history and its standards of living. Anyway I only can recommend you to read the description, to view the pictures of the rooms and just contact Gilbert here, who replies very swift and you can ask and clarify everything before you book a room and start your trip to Malta. I was also happy with the location of the house. I needed a 12-15 min walk to every nice waterside promenade (ferries to Valletta) and shops, only 10 min to a big supermarket, 50 m to the small one. It was the best choice for me to stay in Sliema, because I had everythign I need very closed, I loved to walk several times a day (also to my English school in the morning) and to meet nice people in the streets and to sometimes speak to them. My room was quite big for me alone, I had a kitchen and a bathroom I shared with other guests which worked very well! You don't really need to cook in Malta - it's quite nice and chip to go out. ;) Thank you, Tonya and Gilbert! I wish you all the best for the future. See you soon :)
I received a very warm welcome by this family to stay in their very charming old Maltese house,I had all I needed, clean room with TV,DVD player and balcony, also kitchen facilities,I would have no hesitation in staying there again.
Thank you Tonia,Gilbert and Estelle for making my stay so comfortable x

“Heart warming hospitality in a beautiful traditional Maltese townhouse”
I had a most wonderful stay in this hostfamily. I was picked up from the airport in a most heartwarming way and welcomed in the family's real traditional Maltese townhouse with many beautiful features. The location is quite perfect and close to just about everything. I have lived in just about every room of the house as I had a long stay of over 6 weeks. All the rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious. I had a good continental breakfast every morning and I enjoyed the local bread and fruits a lot. But actually what I liked most was the family. They made me feel very included and they were very friendly and hospitable. I felt more a part of the family than a guest and they were always there for me for a nice chat, some advice or just a loving hug. I came back for a second stay in January 2010 after having spend weeks in anticipation of being reunited with my "Maltese family". I can recommend a stay with this family to anybody, young and old as this family made my stay just that bit sunnier than usual. Ps. The view from the sun terraces is in one word amazing !!!!

“Tres bonne location”

This words are in the Bible ( New World Translation)
They were written in the first centuary. But this world is alive.
Maltese are very kind still now , in 2011.
Especially ,people at this accommodation are always very kind.
When I asked something , they always smiled happily.
They taught me how to get the bus .
They taught me how to go to my language school .
So I could ask very little things.
They prepared a very good room for me.
I could have a good refrigerator .
It was very important for me, because it was very hot, I wanted drink something cold to drink even at night.
I could enjoy cold drink every time.
I had a big mirror.
It was very convenient for me.
Because I wore kimono, Japanese traditional clothes , almost every day.
The hotel where I stayed before this accommodation ,had no refrigerator, no mirror , and
more expensive .
Their daughter is very nice and very polite.
Their dog and cat are nice and very cute.
I want to go back to Malta as soon as possible and see them all.
I loved them all.

Tonia and Gilbert are very welcoming, we really enjoyed our stay with them.
They are very helpful, they gave us a lot of information about the visits to do, they drove us from and back to the airport, they provided the linen and the towels, they washed once a week our clothes...
This accommodation is the best location to stay in Malta, we were in a quiet place and very close to the bus stops, the ferries, the beaches and the city center.
This accommodation was really perfect for us !

Very nice family! The atmosphere is warm and friendly. It feels like at home there.
Stayed August 2011.
Stayed in the room that overlooks the garden. Large enough for two. Included our own fridge which was very nice. Private bathroom outside the door-very spacious. Used kitchen on that floor-it is up to all renters to clean up after selves. Mostly they do. Room was cleaned often. You will climb ma y stairs to this room but you will climb streets in Sliema and other locations in Malta. The owners were VERY nice and we could ask them anything. They helped with all kinds of directions. The bus stop is less than 5 minutes away. Food store 3 doors down. Be careful crossing ALL Malta streets. We usually took the bus from Sliema to Valletta and then from there to wherever we wanted to go. A one week pass was 12.50 Euros. Very reasonable. Buy the fresh Maltese bread. Drink lots of water. Use sunscreen. Maltese fruit is wonderfully sweet. Do not hesitate to ask for directions. A smile, please and thank you go a long way in Malta. We found everyone very kind and helpful.

"MY MALTA EXPERIENCE"
FEBRUARY 3, 2013.
Tonia and Gilbert are gorgeous Maltese people, easygoing, willing and sociable.Their original house is in a quiet and safe part of Sliema but close to the busy city center, port and beaches, just a few minutes. I had a room with a private bathroom and I could use a fully equipped kitchen. They provided me towels, linen, all important information or tips I needed and whatever I asked for. My room was always tidied up and Gilbert drove me from and back to the airport. If I go to Malta once more, I´ll stay with them again.

I really enjoyed my stay at this quiet homestay in the heart of Sliema ... I would recommend it especially for students and independent travelers who would appreciate its good price and very comfortable and clean rooms and kitchenette. Mrs and Ms DeGiorgio were also very helpful with planning my daily trips around this wonderful island...
